Facebook will block photos of your ex

In a move none too soon, Facebook will begin a roll-out to all users to start NOT showing pictures of your ex (the one that used to be your main squeeze) tied to your account.

No more, hopefully, will Facebook continue to torture you with pictures of your ex with their new beau.

Quote from InsideFacebook.com:
… Facebook’s project manager in charge of photos, Sam Odio, commented on the post saying, “Hi All – I’d like to let you know that we’re listening to your feedback. The photo memories product no longer shows tagged photos of your friends if you were previously in a relationship with them.” While users may still see Photo Memories of their former romantic partners if they didn’t declare the relationship on Facebook, as well of their current partner with that person’s former partners, the change should help heal the heartache for many users.
End quote

I think Sam Odio is onto something great here.

Stuff To Talk About This Weekend

Friday’s Conversation Topics

Without a doubt one of the most popular conversation topics will be the Chilean mine rescue. People around the world were riveted to the televisions and computer watching live feeds of the rescue.
Technology not only provided a great story but allowed us to witness the triumph of the human spirit. I hope that this is a lesson not soon forgotten and not repeated any time soon.

- 22 Miners Rescued. After 69 days of captivity these 33 miners are folk heroes. The president of Chile was on hand to welcome each man back to the surface.

- UFO’s spotted over New York City. Yes, I will admit a certain fascination with space ships but one never knows… This article is about a sighting involving dozens, maybe more, of people calling the FAA about the silvery object seen hovering over Chelsea, NY, complete with photo and video of news report.

- Skype VOIP connects through Facebook and allows up to ten-way video calling. Skype users can now connect to Facebook friends with just a click in the latest Skype 5.0 software (for Windows users) release. Yes, the world is coming together…

- Shortest man in the world is 26.4 inches tall, as recorded by the Guinness Book of World Records, photo with caption.

- McDonald’s Happy Meal doesn’t rot after 180 days. Photog Sally Davies wins a bet that the food won’t rot within a few days and 6 months later the food is still as awful looking as the day it was fresh. Includes pictures and explanation of the friendly bet.

Facebook 401 Error, Facebook.com Offline

Facebook 401 Error

Have you been haunted by this error, as shown on the left, when trying to access Facebook.com? [Click the image for a larger view of the error in a new window.]

The authentication popup window asks for a username and password and offers the clue of “A username and password are being requested by http://www.facebook.com. The site says: “TIPS2 PROD Cache Layer”” Clicking on Ok does not get rid of the error popup and clicking on cancel does not allow the Facebook.com website to load although other websites will .load just not the facebook.com friend’s recommendation update info box.

This is an error eerily similar to a Twitter bug a couple of weeks ago when Twitter changed the way authentication was made to account information.

Not sure when this trouble will go away but it’s been an hour or more so far tonight.

.
** Update: the authorization issue has been reported on dozens of other websites that use facebook.com update info boxes, so this may be a very widespread issue affecting one can only guess how many people across the internet, possibly more than the 500 million members that Facebook boasts.

Facebook error shows up on CNN.com pages

Facebook error shows up on PerezHilton.com pages

** Update: I’ve been watching several sites and facebook.com for more than two hours since this item was first posted and the issue seems to have been solved, or at least curtailed, and facebook.com is online again.

Add a comment or check back later for updates as they become available.

Friday’s Conversation Topics

One of the questions I get asked most is how to start a conversation. And it’s tough. You have to be aware of what the current conversation is and listen well so you know when it’s good to add your own comments and input.

And it’s even harder when you have to start a conversation rather than joining one. Saying “Hello” is only the jumping off point, you have to have a conversation to back your hello up or expect the uncomfortable, pregnant pause, then slink off into the background. Embarrassed.

So it’s good you’re here, you’re going to have plenty to talk about after reading these popular news articles from the past week. Absorb and enjoy.

- Chile’s 33 miners will be out in November. I cannot imagine being trapped in a collapsed mine, waiting for rescue that is months away. I could draw many similarities with our life, above ground, but that just makes their predicament so much sadder and desperate, don’t you think?

- Facebook ruins marriages? Could reconnecting to past friends and girl/boy-friends cause a rift in your marriage? Is orange juice orange? It’s not the same as if you’re out for dinner with your significant other and an old flame walks by, stops and says hello. The Facebook reconnect is much more personal and harder to blow off, don’t you think?

- McDonald’s serves a secondhand burger. Yes now we have a man, who is also a minister, being served an already bitten into burger through the drive-thru. He really didn’t want to make a stir about the whole thing with the exception that might not have been a mistake but a regular occurrence. Ugh.

- Work at the same place but only meet on a dating service? Sure, it’s possible. Then they get married? Wow! Score one for online dating. Otherwise how would a caretaker and a teacher meet and find love?

- America’s Got Talent. Michael Grimm, the million dollar winner in the talent contest broadcast around the world is not only richer but also engaged according to insiders of the “Ellen Degeneres Show” with a marriage proposal to be broadcast this morning on the show.

Have a great weekend - and chat it up!

Friday’s Conversation Topics

The weekend is here! Hooray!

I am so happy that you’re starting your weekend with me. It’s been a whirlwind of a week and the promise for even more excitement hangs in the air like a fog-filled morning in the spring.

You’re going to have some great conversations this weekend and by reading the following most interesting news stories of this past week you’ll be very prepared for any conversation.

Let’s get started:

- Michael Jackson $300 million lawsuit gone through dismissal. All Good loses and MJ’s estate can take a breather. He’d be happy if he was with us, I’m sure.

- The undersea oil plume that is 22 miles long, 3000 feet under the surface and possibly killing any/everything in it’s path. Not a good time to be plankton.

- “You’re ugly and you can’t count to 10.” saying this in a grocery store express line (ten items or less) costs a man $429.00 fine.

- “I just got the Dislike button, so now I can dislike all of your dumb posts lol!!” Fake dislike button on Facebook is now being used by scammers to run updates on your Facebook profile to spread virally to your friends and contacts.

- How to mess with someone in a bathroom. OK, I’m not generally the type for bathroom humor but it s the weekend after all. Go ahead, laugh yourself silly, I give you permission.

And you don’t want to miss:
- the do’s and don’ts of asking someone out online
- Post a Job on Yahoo! HotJobs

This Week’s Conversation Topics

Never one to let us down, the humanity we so deeply try to be in tune with has again brought the best and the worst out of people, for our understanding and amusement, this past week.

Read the stories I have chosen for you and be prepared to talk up it today and this weekend.

- Bigamist caught out on Facebook. Let’s face it, if you want to marry the woman you’re having an affair with most guys would divorce the first wife. Maybe John France will learn something now that his first wife has outed his bigamy (he says the marriage wasn’t legal) after seeing the wedding pictures of him and his second wife on Facebook. The second wife’s Facebook profile is now private.

- The moon is dry. Contrary to recent popular belief, and scientist speculation, new theories are published showing that the moon was, and always has been, dry. Good on that then, eh?

- Prime Minister Churchill ordered UFO coverup. While I agree that many so-called UFO incidents can be explained away, there remains a portion that needs additional explanation or investigation. And there’s pictures of UFO’s too.

- “Let me touch your boobies or I will arrest you.” Policeman get’s caught after woman’s complaint, oh yeah, he got fired too. I’ve always heard that the law touches everybody, but geesh!

- What do you call a cheeseburger patty wrapped in a glazed donut? That’s right, the “Krispie Kreme Cheeseburger” is available at state fairs and sports stadiums everywhere, well, almost everywhere. Or you can make your own here’s the recipe: one burger patty, cooked, and a slice of cheese, two slices of cooked bacon and place it all between a halved (horizontally sliced) glazed donut, condiments optional. Mmm, good. The second link includes pictures and video.

Have a great day!

Friday’s Conversation Topics

This Friday evening and weekend I want you to be well prepared for the conversations you will find yourself a part of.
Remember:

A woman that can contribute and lead conversations is a strong and attractive women.

The man that can keep up with the conversation and add exciting facts at appropriate moments becomes very interesting and exciting to the women that surround him.

So, this is your homework, read these selected articles and prepare yourself for some fun conversation this weekend!

- 13 year old boy will attempt to climb Mount Everest. Hell, I’d like to get out of my car without needing to catch my breath. But good for the kid, this effort will complete his goal of climbing mountains on all seven continents. Too bad he still has a couple of years to get to the top of “Mount Breast”.

- How women control men and influence people using Facebook. It’s about time someone stood up and told the truth about how women use social networking tools to maintain and control relationships online and offline. Of course, we also have to ask “Do online friends influence drinking habits“?

- Steven Seagal sued. Does he really own two Russian sex slaves? Full article at TMZ.com

- How not to use Craigslist.org. Woman posts ad “Come and get free stuff in the front yard” and people take most of the free stuff and thieves take the other stuff still inside the house, including fridge, stove, etc.

Friday’s Conversation Topics

This past week, like many others we have experienced in this young year, has been full of interesting and conversational stories. Read and remember, you’ll need to be up-to-date to be a part of some great conversations this weekend.

- Facebook can give you syphilis. Yes, sadly this is a true, weird story. Or a lame-assed grab at some headlines on a slow news day. But think about this, the more people can connect the more they can pass along an STD. Of course, social networking sites also allow for some very bad music becoming popular too.

- Full body scanner operator warned about sexual harassment. When these machines were being distributed in January on a mass scale, I made a bet that it would take two weeks before someone was brought up on such “peek-a-boo” charges. Sure, it took longer than I thought, but I was still found right.

- Cash falls out of armored car… and guess what? Lots of motorists stop, pick up bundles of cash and leave. The scary part is they may be fearful of spending their ‘windfall’ after a possible threat of being charged with grand theft is made by local police.

- You have to wonder when teachers pull this kind of crap. Teachers, as a science lesson, fake a shooting and teacher’s death to teach the 10 - 13 year olds hanging out in the schoolyard and ten minutes later call them inside to tell them it was all a joke. UGH.

- Bush wipes hand on Clinton’s shirt. Yes, complete with video.

Have a great weekend.

Important conversations

Friday

I hope you have nig plans for tonight… it is Superbowl weekend after all, a lot of what happens tonight will determine where and with whom you see the game with on Sunday.

And to get that invite, that “game date” you need to be an interesting person with great conversation skills (remember, the best conversationalist listens more than talks!).

Here are some topics from this week’s past events to talk about and start your conversations easily with anyone you meet this weekend.

1. Has Michael Jackson’s doctor been arrested? This news blog seems to indicate so, or does it?

2. Haiti earthquake survivor get’s dinged on replacement iPhone. After surviving a fourth floor ride to the ground during the earthquake, survivor loses out on recently activated, and now crushed, iPhone until complaints get heard higher up.

3. Facebook launches games dashboard - as if that’s all we do, socialize while trying to get a bigger farm in Farmville or beating a high score in Bejeweled Blitz…LOL

4. Terrorists and subversives must register in South Carolina - under penalty of fine, imprisonment, or both. WTF?

5. Lender forecloses on homeless shelter - 700 homeless men are… homeless.

You just can’t make this stuff up!

Friday’s Conversation Topics

Stuffed still?

I love turkey left-overs. Turkey sandwiches, turkey soup.
Mmm.

And this holiday week is not short of any great news stories. You’re going to have fun catching up on the week in review and being ready to discuss these interesting happenings.

- Man in coma 23 years was aware of everything happening around him . Wow, frozen inside your own body. I really can’t imagine any worse punishment. What about you? What do you think?

- Facebook worm hidden in bikini-wearing woman ad. Anti-virus company AVG announced discovery of a Facebook worm being posted to user’s walls. facebook says very few users affected. On an unrealted note, I like bikini wearing women.

- Which store will be the first to open on Black Friday? Do you even care or are have you been camping out since Wednesday? What’s your shopping story?

- Adam Lambert. American Idol loser, man-on-man kiss and one of the most graphic performances I’ve ever seen on the AMA’s. Were you just a sgrossed out as I was? He does admit to getting “carrried away” and that’s just what I was thinking, someone please take him away!

“Unfriend”: The Word of the Year

Oxford’s “Word of the Year” is the latest description of not being connected with a specific person any longer.

Unfriend

“I UNFRIEND you”, or more aptly just delete your friend profile from my Facebook account.

Unfriend… cold and apt for the word of the year, I think.

Or just very sad for a year that has had such turmoil already.

Facebook to offer custom usernames

According to the Facebook blog this weekend, at 12:01 EDT Saturday June 13 2009, you will be able to get a custom url for your Facebook account, which up to now has just been a string of numbers.

Will you be ready to select your username? You’ll want to consider your choice carefully because once it’s done, it’s done. No transferring your user name, no selling, it’s just yours and no one else’s.
