Friday’s Conversation Topics

Another week, another few days of wackiness and newsworthy stories. It’s all about what I have and what you want this week. You’re going to want to talk about these news stories. Really! Read on.

- “I know the law”… and now this Spanish lady owns the sun. It’s amazing what the power of a notary public is and I have to wonder what Angeles Duran is going to charge us for using the sun. This is a great entrepreneurial job, don’t you think? Hmmm…

- It’s a good probability that your computer is already fingerprinted (that is, cataloged by each device’s unique combination of hardware, software and installed fonts) and you’re being tracked more intricately that ever before. David Norris’s company BlueCava has already fingerprinted 200 million internet devices and expects to have more than 1 billion devices fingerprinted and trackable for online advertisers by the end of 2011. It’s going to be very hard to use any internet-enabled device and not be followed online soon, if not already.

- Yes, I said he has a camera in the back of his head. Hey, everyone wants to be known as “the first” and academia being what it is these days, if you can’t impress one way, go farther than anyone else and make your mark with a camera in the back of your head. yes, this article includes a video to sate your curiosity and give you even more to talk about. “The thumb-sized camera is mounted on a titanium plate inserted inside the back of his head” Professor Wafaa Bilal said. Once the camera is broadcasting via a computer Professor Bilal carries with him you’ll be able to view the pictures at www.3rdi.me.

- In these hard times there’s always a story of a guy, somewhere, augmenting his income in a less-than-lawful way. Mr. Gumbs, while working at the Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, managed to order a few extra toner cartidges and (possibly but this has yet to be proven in court) sold them on some ink-black-market. Well, maybe a little more than a few, maybe more like $3.4 million dollars of excess (and still missing) toner purchased since 2004 that never made it into the hospital’s supply system. Of course, a lot of the ink didn’t even fit any of the printers that are in use at Sloan-Kettering. I guess this was a “great job” for a while…

Have a great week!

Friday’s Conversation Topics

This past week has given us al lot to talk about. The news never stops, does it?
So, as you’re out and about this weekend, or simply exchanging emails during your free communication weekend at Chemistry.com, these stories will prepare you with something interesting to say.

- The Chilean miners that survived 69 days trapped undergound, and captured the attention of hundereds of millions of people, landed in America and started with a tour of Hollywood yesterday. These men truly are real heroes and I wish them the best in their celebrity. (Article includes vieo of their arrival and parts of their first day’s visit.)

- Burger King fires employees after figuring out how to reset the printed text on receipts and insert “Fuck You” onto the copies given to customers (with news video). Hahaha, I’d rethink their firing and offer them a promotion to the marketing division.

- Man arrested after starting fire in house while burning photos of ex-girlfriend to appease current girlfriend. I have to wonder what the phots were of, possibly nude pictures? And how did the current girlfriend find them to start the arguement that lead to the burning of the photos? So many unanswered questions. The moral of the story? Get a safety deposit box for all your photographic keepsakes to avoid burning dowen your house. LOL.

- The new never-ending war against the TSA and security pat-downs and x-ray machines reaches a new low with breast cancer survivor forced to reveal her prosthetic breast during security check. Honestly, is there not a better way to safegurd us agianst terror attacks while preserving our personal privacy and our humanity on the whole? (“Don’t touch my junk” vidoe here or watch it below.) News article includes a wealth of information and more stories about the intrusiveness of the TSA security scans and pat-downs.

- Here’s one for creativity: Man pretends to be a plastic surgeon and offers women his skills as a “boob enhance doctor) and feels women up during “breast exams” in bars. Yes, he gets arrested. But you have to wonder how truthful his spiel was that he’d get women to allow him to touch their breasts in the bar for an “exam”. And how much alcohol did these women drink to allow themselves to get felt up. It’s a weird world out there, isn’t it? My favorite part of this article: “The Idaho Statesman website reported that Ross has a previous criminal record as a man but identifies herself as a woman and was booked into Ada County Jail as a female.”)

Have a great weekend!

Friday’s Conversation Topics

Wow, this week just sped by… and do you know that Christmas is now only 8 weeks away!

Wow again!

This week there is plenty to talk about and, as a bonus just for you, a few current news stories that will make great conversation when you need to add your voice to the convo. So keep reading and learn something to speak about from these five interesting news stories from the past week.

- Yes, many government have such high borrowing debts that Germany (in the EU) says, hey, make the bondholders lose all of their investments and let the regular citizens life a better, less austere life. I’m all for that, in a way. End the incredibly high priced bailouts and let those that invested in the government bonds lose out just like any other investor. And return life to normal without all of these high tax increases, restricted austerity measures and let’s just wipe the slate clean (Like the North American automakers burned their stock holders but are still in business today (could be a reasonable case study there) and start anew. Right. (By the way, my savings are still safe, right?)

- The story first surfaced in a YouTube video that includes film footage showing the 1928 premiere of the Charlie Chaplin film “The Circus” at Manns Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. Irish filmmaker George Clarke points out a woman in the old footage holding what he describes as a cell phone against her ear. The shape implies the woman is a time traveler using a modern mobile device rather than an ear trumpet, Clarke said. Watch the video below and see for yourself.

- With Halloween just days away, be sure to view, then share, these photos of the 25 Hottest Scary Movie Starlets. There’s some good newbie starlets and some much older previously viewed starlets (LOL) like Mariska Hargitay (Law and Order:SVU fame) in the silly 1985 flick ‘Ghoulies’ and plenty more. Great trivia facts to learn here too.

- Cops don’t like when you waterboard your girlfriend, even if he thinks you’re cheating. Really, dude, is she that special that you’ll do something to spend a few years in jail for?

- 4 year old on a bike with training wheels can be sued by the elderly lady she ran down. Some days sorry just isn’t enough in New York City. Apparently, under four is too old to be charged with negligence but over four you’re going to end up in court. Of course the 87 year old lady did die 3 weeks later. I see a lot of bikes with training wheels and a retractable leash under the Christmas tree this year.

Have a great weekend!

A breath of fresh air

A breath of fresh air

At any time, in any place,
you might need to start a conversation.

Now, for a lot of people this isn’t a problem but if you’re like me having something to talk about takes work and effort. You need to be reading and paying attention to a lot of details. Or you need to know a lot about just a few things to be considered “knowledgeable” without being conceited or condescending towards others.

This post will give you a heads-up on a couple of current news stories that provide fodder for interesting conversations so you have something to say when the time comes for you to say something. So continue reading and feel free to use my comments about the stories as you see fit.

- Man stabbed when he doesn’t let his friends suck his blood. Well, really, he did let them suck his blood once so what’s his problem now? It is hard to find dependable friends these days isn’t it?

- Robot cars are among us. Google, the “Do no evil” mega-internet giant has been field testing robot cars for “unknown purposes” for a while now, on US streets. My fear is what happens if the robot cars decide to take over? Will Google’s unofficial motto be changed to “Yes we can”?

- Streaker arrested. Not just any nude runner, but the guy that tried to show off his gonads to President Obama for a cool $1 million dollars in prize money. Had I only known, either I’d have had my camera ready or tried to win the money myself…

Have a great day!

Friday’s Conversation Topic

This has been a hectic week for a lot of people in the news, from Kim Kardashian’s nude photos to Pastor Terry Jones wanting to burn Islam’s most holy book. If you’re usually at a loss in a conversation, where to start, when to jump in with an opinion, help is here.

Start reading and have a topic ready to converse about. You are welcome (in advance).

- Science offers the keys to sexy dancing. It was only a matter of time, really, before scientists told us what makes you attractive when you dance. Using motion technology the sexy dance is now laid bare for everyone to learn. All of the “two-left-footed” people are still excused.

- Sex toy study creates buzz. I know what you’re thinking and yes, this is about sex, even safer sex, not threesomes or anything like that. It’s surprising that they know so much about sex at the university level and how much they want to learn about women and their sex toy usage.

- Accounting rules gives GM $30 billion from nothing. If you’re planning on buying stock when the IPO happens, or if your broker suggests this, you’d better read this article and it’s quick lesson about fancy accounting rules and GM’s valuable “goodwill”.

- Court rules petty theft not a reason to be fired from job. Man wins back job after being sacked for charging his segway at work at a cost of 1.8 euro cents (2 pennies). Yeah, I know what you’re thinking… at least he wasn’t handing out porn pens to 6 year-olds.

- Google introduces search computer chip that can be implanted in brain. Your kid not smart enough? If he can figure out how to ask the question he’ll instantly have the answer with this latest Google product. “Do no evil” (Google’s unofficial motto), yeah, right.

Have a great weekend.

Friday’s Conversation Topics

This is the place to read the most conversational news stories of the past week. After reading this post you’ll be prepared to converse with anyone, in any place.
Let’s get to it:

- Fried Beer. Beer-filled pretzel pocket is deep-fried to a golden brown. One bite and the escaping beer serves as a dipping sauce. Yes, the Texas State Fair offers their ten top treats of 2010 and yes, it includes a beer-filled pretzel that is deep fried. Go ahead, read about the other nine finalists.

- Dead phone leading to oversleeping could cost golfer big. Jim Furyk, number 6 ranked golfer is kicked out of the FedEx Cup because he’s late to tee time. He could lose as many as 16 places to be ranked 19th after missing the FedEx tournament. The model of phone was not disclosed….

- Woman happily recovering from “Blackberry Thumb” surgery. Doctors recommend that if you start to feel pain in your hands/fingers/thumbs while texting, take a break!

- Wearing low-riders in court? Prepare to be jailed. Yes, a New Orleans state judge gave a woman 10 days in jail for contempt of court by wearing jeans so low her panties and buttocks showed. Yup, finally a step towards decent dress or at least a reason to not have your belt confiscated… or some such thing… it’s all so confusing…

- Donald Bren, ranked 16th in Forbe’s list of billionaires, wins case to stop paying child support, and paying back child support, to his adult kids. I agree, there has to be a line drawn somewhere, right?

- Assorted tips - porn names and pickup lines.

Have a great weekend!

Friday’s Conversation Topics

It’s Friday again and time for the weekly round-up of great conversational news stories from the last 7 days, or so. (I add the “or so” because not every story has a published and verified date.)

Read my comments, read the story and try to remember the essential points of the story so you have something to talk about later and be able to avoid those otherwise embarrassing pregnant pauses in what could otherwise be a happy pairing up or group conversation. Good luck!

- Beaver shot in suspected payback killing. I had to include this simply because of the headline. Who shoots beavers and why? Was there porn involved or was it a PG-13 shooting? Sorry, I just couldn’t resist but you still have to read the story.

- Stone Henge meet Wood Henge. While it isn’t out of this world that archeologists looking for something found something, I think that except for nice bed time reading, all of this nonsense shouldn’t be funded by public dollars. It’s just my opinion mind you.

- Mug shots of famous people as they headed off to jail. Lindsay Lohan, you’re in “good” company. LOL. I think whoever has 12 days in the pool for betting on how long she’s actually in jail has the best shot at winning!

- Romantic movies ruin real life for many, Australian survey finds. Geesh, they could have asked me and I would have saved them a ton of money. Doesn’t anyone else realize how many kids these days mistake “music entertainment” for real life? If you disagree with me all I have to say to you is “Pull up your pants, your boxers are showing!

- The truth about lying. I do not care to admit agreement or disagreement with the phrase “You save your really big lies,” Bella DePaulo, Ph.D. says, “for the person that you’re closest to.”

Have a great week!

Friday’s Conversation Topics

If you’re looking for something to talk about, well then you’ve come to the right blog. This week has been very entertaining and I have plenty of conversational news stories to share with you.

So let’s get started. Read these stories and be prepared for some interesting conversations tonight and this weekend.

- Store clerk voided $30 million winning ticket. Someone came very close to winning a major lottery prize but they had no ‘follow-through’!

- Kendra Wilkinson’s sex video. She says “it’s not me, well it is me but it’s not me.” Yeah, sure, ok, got it, I understand… LOL

- First ever scented billboard. It’s not bad enough to have burger grease air pollution, now advertisers are making roadside signs that smell like the product, the first one being for a meat and grocery promoting a new line of beef and smells like, you guessed it, steak. Ugh.

- 10 ways your home is hackable. If you lock your door and then consider yourself safe you may not want to read this article.

Have a great day and a fun weekend!
