My 2011 Dodge Challenger

My 2011 Dodge Challenger

I’m feeling great! New haircut, new car… the list doesn’t have to go on from there, does it? I do have to say that the world doesn’t stop turning no matter what your personal milestones are. This is what leaves us with something to always talk about, without seeming self-absorbed, even if we are. Did I mention I bought a 2011 Dodge Challenger (see picture at left). Anyways, read about the news stories below, including my witty comments, and be prepared to talk it up tonight and this weekend. Cheers!

- Simon Cowell, of American Idol fame, signs 10 year old to recording contract. You gotta love these stories of unknowns finding fame and maybe fortune. But are we digging too deep into a child’s formative years when we see dollar signs at age ten? Decide for yourself, the video below is one of Heather Russell’s first youtube videos (there are others, of course). She wrote the song herself at age 8.

- Workmen find $1 million stashed in wall of house. Fixing broken pipes has never been so lucritive, for the state, anyways. The workers were astonished, to say the least, about finding the cash in the walls but no reason was given for the police being called. Considering the city’s nearness to the Mexican border (El Paso) finding large amounts of cash stashed in walls is usually attributed to ill-gotten gains (read: drug money) and that’s a good enough reason to me to not just take the money and run. Good job guys!

- Does knowing that 30% of the purchase price of your favorite digital magazine going to Apple make you hesitate about making the purchase? Seriously, 30%? No wonder Apple is one of the most cash-rich companies in the world. Personally I think it’s too big of a slice of the pie, cheers to Apple for holding the world’s publishers hostage though. Anyone want to donate some shares in Apple stock to me? Or build Steve Jobs a house?

- Get ahead in life and “How to think like a shrink” will get you started. Nail down the answers to the “Big Three Questions” and you’ll have enough info about anybody to keep you busily deciphering it for the rest of your relationship with that person, should you decide to take on the task. The Big Three Questions are (in my own words, read the article for their exact wording):
- Did they, and do they still, get along for family members?
- What was your life goal in your early teens (13 - 16)? Have your goals changed and why.
- If you are alone in a room with a person of the same sex do you feel homosexually challenged?

HD Mini DVR with LCD (Night Vision, Motion Detection)

I have one of these cameras. No worries about the “no fault” car accident claims with the video evidence on my side. Check it out for yourself! Primarily designed to be mounted on a car dashboard or windshield, this high speed HD video recorder enables you to easily capture video of road situations. Common uses include: insurance purposes, court evidence, capturing an officer’s abusive behavior or just plain fun! However, this handy little device is not limited to car use only. With the included battery you can take it anywhere. The camera is palm-sized so you can easily use it anywhere and slip it in your pocket when done. There are a lot of these on sale at ebay.com but none have this low price, low shipping and 1 year warranty.

Dating Profile Headline of the Day

Mobile dating is alive and well

Mobile dating is alive and well

Friday

I’ve had my Android phone (HTC Desire) for a few weeks now and I have to say that I’m absolutely in love with it, if you can love a phone.

The Apple iPhone 4 was never an option for me, not because of availability but simply because I didn’t like the idea of everything my internet capable phone could do would have to be “approved” by Apple. Google, for better or worse, has a much more open market for apps, which I do appreciate. After all, the internet is based on a certain amount of freedom, right? Why surrender that freedom to a single company in the name of a dollar?

That being said I do not have, right now, a good count of the dating services available through an iPhone app, but the Google market has at least 20 apps for mobile access to dating, chatting and meeting people.

Certainly this shows what direction dating, and mobile computing as a whole, is headed. It has been said that sex drives computer technology as far as chasing dollars goes and I think there is some truth to that. If the sex industry (and dating is the main stream but smaller component of online sex) can make money on it then it’s a given that the “straight” computer community will follow.

That being said, more pressure than ever is put on you for not only which dating service you put your efforts into but also that you’re available when someone is looking for you, as they will be looking on their phone. Friday and Saturday nights are great times for mobile matches especially when you’re at an event and want to share the experience with someone that you can connect with at the same event.

And, all things being equal, you’re going to need to have regular and timely updates to what you’re doing for your mobile dating app, or portion of your regular online dating profile, to be effective.

This also means a headline to your profile that encourages immediate actions from the person that reads it. An example would be that you’re at a concert so you update your profile to not only where you are but how you like the show, encouraging reply messages to your updates so you have a common interest and maybe a reason to meet after the show.

Hey, it happens and you could meet your match just because you added a real-time event to your dating profile.

Today’s headline suggestion is a few words to help you get noticed, immediately, and make a connection and maybe a new friend. Post this:
“Meet me up after the (name of the ) show at (place).”

Have a great day!

PS. If you have experience with iPhone dating services that you’ve tried please comment to this post to let others know about them.

Friday’s News Conversation Stories

Another weekend is here and you’d better be prepared to talk about something to someone. I’m taking the weekend off so you’ll have to be your own wingman (Wingwoman?).

Don’t worry though, I have some great stories for you to share with whoever you end up standing beside and needing something to talk about. Just remember me, sometime…

Here we go:
- BP should pay, not fundraisers. I’m glad this news story came about, even if it is an iReport at CNN (mostly these people are crazies, I think). You have to wonder why our “stars” are manning a phone-in-donation campaign instead of walking the street, placards in hand, disparaging BP. The oil company will pay for their mistakes. The coast and affected states will pay for the mistake. Why are famous entertainment people raising money to pay for whatever cleanup needs to be done? Why are these “stars” fund-raising for what eventually be a high tally that BP will be required to pay? If these movie stars need to fundraise for something, how about my retirement?

- How would you be this guy? Yes, the third founder of Apple, who sold his very young 10% of the company shares of stock for $800.00 says life turned out just fine, thank you. I bet.

- Going to pot. Without a doubt I believe that government budget woes will eventually lead to the legalization of marijuana within the next 3 years. Californication? Yes, they will lead the way. How can a broke government continue to throw away (burn, arrest) potentially hundreds of millions of tax revenue? Watch and learn people, I can see the coming storm.

- Vuvuzelas everywhere. Well, if Youtube adds a noisy button and referees at the World Cup won’t ban them, what the hell???….

- One year after the death of Michael Jackson. Does this story make me old? Stories of people I kind of grew up with, that are now dead…. geesh (*sob*) Now I’m all depressed. Let’s change the subject to:

- The new luxury resort at Disney World opens. But you need four paws to get a room. Just when I thought buying a jar of salted cashews was the worst way to waste my money…

Have a great Friday night out and a great weekend!

Friday’s Conversation Topics

When you need something to talk about…

This is the blog that brings to you the best conversation topics to chat about tonight and through the weekend. Read the headline, my comments and follow through the the story. Now you know the rules, let’s get started:

- Kinect and Move: motion control expanding beyond the Wii. I don’t know about you but I’m a more than a little excited about playing some games without fumbling with controllers. I never could figure out whether to punch the A, B L2 button, or whatever it might be. Games that use the keyboard to move and shoot are just as bad for me, unlearnable. But I might make a great “human controller”. LOL. Kinect and Move might just get me in the game again, after all, Wii bowling only takes you so far.

- Apple’s iPhone4. Does anyone else see the growing storm that starts with a computer maker that sells more music, phone and ebook readers (under various guises) than computers could bring to humanity? Am I the last calm voice that sees the control that is being handed over by the plebes?

- The Big Bang Followed by The Big Wheeze - The astrophysicists have figured it all out: 13.7 billion years ago (+/- 2%) is when this whole thing started. And if you want to appear intelligent, you’ll read this article and learn something, even if it isn’t all figured out yet.

- Goose with arrow in neck evades capture again. With pictures. This is one of those stories that you have to read (and see) to believe.

Have a great weekend!

Friday

Friday is here again, all rejoice! (And have a beer for me too!)

Today I have some very informative, and conversational, news items to share with you. Read them all and be ready with a sharp wit and a knowledgeable disposition.

- The missing lotter winner found? Not to throw comedy at tragedy but Mr. Abraham Shapkespeare might have been found buried under 5 feet of concrete. If you recall, Mr. Shakespeare’s lottery winning life started with a coworker saying that the winning ticket was stolen from him, his girlfriend (?) conned him out of an almost million dollar home and untold thousands of dollars and might just be the major suspect in the death, due to her activities of trying to get money out of bank accounts that were his well after he was declared missing and possible met with foul play. Overall this sounds like a real made-for-tv movie.

- Did Apple lay down the biggest boner ever with their new iPad? I think so. No multitasking (surfing and listening to music for instance), no HDMI connector and a host of other “not-haves” makes this a not have for me, at least until version 2 comes out.

- Did you read about the smart family that changed to natural gas instead of heating oil? Neither did their heating oil delivery company… family now living in hotel… SHAZAM!

- How about the girl that videoed the guy playing with his pet chicken (or maybe his gf) on the subway, all rolling around, hugging and kissing his chicken…. With video here. You just can’t make this stuff up!

- The myth of mispelt tattoos is a myth no longer. Complete with pictures! You might want to print some of these out to share at the bar, since they don’t have wifi there yet.

Have a great weekend!
